CBC Office of Dual Enrollment gains five Early College High School partnerships

Coastal Bend College’s (CBC) Office of Dual Enrollment (ODE) added five new Early College High School (ECHS) partners for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. The Alice, Jim Hogg, Karnes City, Riviera and San Diego Independent School Districts (ISD) will join Kingsville and Mathis ISD as CBC ECHS partners.

ECHS are designed to provide high school students, who are not likely to attend an institution of higher education, with the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma as well as an associate degree. The college level credits that students earn are transferrable to most four-year institutions in Texas.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, Kingsville and Mathis ISD have educated over 275 students through the ECHS program. These students have the option to pursue an associate of arts or science degree.

ECHS students have access to the same support services and technology that are available to traditional CBC students such as library, advising and tutoring resources. Each ECHS student is assigned a dedicated advisor through the Office of Dual Enrollment to ensure his or her academic success throughout the semester.

“The Office of Dual Enrollment at Coastal Bend College is dedicated to assisting all of our high school partners achieve academic success,” CBC’s Dual Enrollment Director Kayla D. Jones said. “We are thrilled to have an additional five ECHS partners to serve and with our strong commitment and partnerships, we will be able to provide the ECHS students the tools for success to earn an associate degree (60 college hours) with Coastal Bend College along with their high school diploma.”

CBC’s ODE currently serves 36 ISD’s in 16 different counties. In the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year, they will be serving Pearsall and Three Rivers ISD in addition to the ECHS mentioned above. Due to the increasing demand for dual enrollment courses for high school students, the ODE is continually expanding workforce and continuing education opportunities.
