Coastal Bend College (CBC) was recently named to the coveted Military Friendly Schools ® list by Victory Media, the media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The Military Friendly Schools ® list honors colleges, universities and trade schools throughout the country who are embracing America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as they pursue a higher education.

The 2017 Military Friendly Schools ® list was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of over 1,700 schools nationwide. Results from the survey were independently tested based upon the criteria, weightings and ratings methodology that were established by Victory Media. Final ratings for the Military Friendly Schools ® list were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores and the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for: student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for veteran students and all students.

As a member of the Military Friendly Schools ® list since 2014, CBC is committed to ensuring that veterans and their dependents are provided with a smooth transition and support as they embark on their journey of obtaining a higher education. CBC offers a myriad of services that help veterans and their dependents understand and utilize their educational benefits.

The College established a Student Life and Veteran’s Center in 2015. This center features a study area, computers and a lounge. The quiet, relaxing space is available to all veterans and their dependents while they are attending CBC. In addition, all CBC locations periodically host registration days that are dedicated to veterans and their dependents. CBC hosts these registration days, so that veterans are aware of their educational benefits.

“The Office of Veterans Affairs is extremely proud to receive the Military Friendly Schools ® designation,” CBC Veterans Affairs Specialist Rosie Saenz said. “The College strives to honor all of our veterans and their dependents. We will continue to explore new avenues to continuously meet the needs of our military and veteran community.”
