Coastal Bend College (CBC) Alice is excited to announce the National Weather Service will be conducting two free courses on Tuesday, July 25 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for members of the community who would like to help keep an eye on the skies in South Texas.
The courses that will be conducted include a storm spotter class as well as a disaster home preparation class. Classes will include training sessions where individuals will learn to identify potential severe weather conditions and understand how to prepare their home to withstand the severe weather.
These classes are being provided by CBC’s Continuing Education Department and will be free of charge. The Coastal Bend College (CBC) Beeville campus, in partnership with Angel Care Ambulance, is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Training Course beginning Monday, March 6.
This course is being offered through the College’s Continuing Education program and will take place inside of the Angel Care Classroom, which is located at 1201 W. Corpus Christi Street. The cost of the course is $933 and students will have the opportunity to apply for the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) for financial assistance.
Prior to the course, students should be AHA/CPR certified and purchase the course textbook titled “Pre-hospital Emergency Care 10th Edition (ISBN-13:978-0-13-336913-7). Additionally, prospective students who sign up for the course can be 17 years of age, but they must be 18 years of age in order to be employed after the successful completion of the course.
Classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 6 and end on Friday, May 5. The class schedule is as follows: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. inside of the Angel Care Classroom. Prospective students who are interested in pursuing this course should note that they will earn 348 hours of instruction, which includes 24 hours in the hospital and 24 hours in the ambulance.

Coastal Bend College (CBC) is offering a blueprint reading course at the Beeville, Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton locations. The course is $76 and scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Students will gain information about interpreting blueprints and creating accurate construction cost estimates. Headline: CBC Alice to host free workshop for small businesses on Feb. 23
The Coastal Bend College (CBC) Alice site will host a free Lunch and Learn Workshop on Tuesday, February 23 at 11:30 a.m. about the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) Skills for Small Business program.
TWC’s Skills for Small Business program was created to assist Texas’ small businesses that have less than 100 employees. The program provides funding for small businesses to enhance the skill set of their current employees through courses offered at CBC.
Representatives from CBC will be on hand to meet with small business owners and discuss various academic and workforce course options. These course options are offered online, on campus and via distance learning at all CBC locations.

Headline: CBC awarded a $20,000 Skills for Small Business grant from TWC
Small businesses with 99 employees or less throughout the surrounding areas will be able to enhance the skill set of their full-time employees thanks to a $20,000 Skills for Small Business grant awarded to Coastal Bend College (CBC) from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The Skills for Small Business program, which has $2 million allocated to it statewide, helps aid in the advancement of Texas’ business community by providing training for small businesses that is needed by their full-time employees, and that will benefit and enhance the businesses’ operations.
The program pays up to $1,450 for each new employee (hired in the 12 months prior to TWC’s receipt of the application) being trained and $725 for existing employees per 12-month period.
CBC’s entire regular/college credit, continuing education and/or online courses are available for small businesses to utilize through this program. CBC’s course offerings range from accounting and computer information technology to hands-on welding and workplace safety courses. Training can include credit courses, continuing education, online or other available courses.
CBC’s Skills for Small Business grant period ends in April 2016, and small businesses from the College’s entire district are eligible to apply.
