Commencement ceremonies set for May 10 at Coastal Bend College

Coastal Bend College (CBC) will conduct two graduation ceremonies for 2017 graduates on Wednesday, May 10. The ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the CBC Beeville’s Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center (gym), which is located at 3800 Charco Road. Graduates from the College’s Beeville, Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton locations will take part in the annual commencement exercises.

The morning commencement ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. and will include graduates from the following programs: Associate of Science, Cosmetology, Dental Hygiene, Drafting & Design, Early Development and Education, Forensic Science, Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice and Oil and Gas Technology.

The afternoon commencement ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. and will include graduates from the following programs: Accounting, Associate of Arts, Automotive Technology, Computer Information Technology, Health Information Technology/Medical Records Coding, Machinist, Professional Business Technology, Nursing LVN, Nursing RN, Radiologic Technology and Welding Technology.

This year’s commencement address will be delivered by Mercedita “Mercy” Flynn. Flynn is a 1992 graduate of Bee County College’s Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program. In addition, she attained her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from New York Regents College while attending online courses and she also earned her license as a registered nurse. Additionally, she continued her education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Masters of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner-C License.

CBC adds 14 Orange Grove High School students at College Signing Day event

Seniors from Orange Grove High School (OGHS) recently participated in a College Signing Day event. The event was hosted on Friday, April 7 and was held in the cafeteria at OGHS.

Family, friends, Coastal Bend College (CBC) staff and OGHS were in attendance to recognize each students’ commitment to pursing a higher education. CBC Recruiter/Advisor Addison Smithwick and CBC Dual Enrollment Specialist Daniel Rea were in attendance to recognize OGHS seniors who will be pursuing a higher education at CBC this fall.

CBC Closed In Observance Of Martin Luther King Holiday

All Coastal Bend College locations will be closed on Monday, January 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King holiday. The College is scheduled to reopen for business on Tuesday, January 17 during normal business hours.

Students should note that the last day to apply for the College’s May graduation ceremony is Monday, February 13. Graduation information and the application for graduation is available online at

CBC Foundation Awards $19K In Student Scholarships

Students at the Coastal Bend College (CBC) Beeville, Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton locations were recently awarded scholarships by the CBC Foundation. The scholarships totaled $19,000 and students will have the opportunity to utilize the scholarships during the Spring 2017 semester.

CBC Accepting Applications for $10,000 Joe Barnhart Foundation Scholarship


The Coastal Bend College (CBC) Financial Aid Office is proud to announce that they are currently accepting applications for the Joe Barnhart Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $10,000 and students will be able to utilize these funds when they transfer to a 4-year college and/or university.

Students who are interested in applying for the Joe Barnhart Foundation Scholarship should note the eligibility criteria:

  • Have attended CBC during the 2016-2017 academic year
  • Overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater
  • Be a candidate for graduation from CBC with an AA, AS or AAS degree

Applications for the Joe Barnhart Foundation Scholarship are available in the College’s Financial Aid Office, which is located in the Cougar Center. All completed applications must be typed and contain a grade transcript. Applications and supporting documents are due to the CBC Financial Aid Office by 5 p.m. on January 27, 2017.
