Coastal Bend College (CBC) is hosting a “Bring a Veteran, Meet a Veteran” event on Wednesday, July 20 at the Beeville campus from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Veterans and their dependents are invited to attend this free event that will take place inside of the newly relocated Veterans Resource Center, which is located inside of the R. W. Dirks Student Services Building.
Representatives from CBC’s Office of Veterans Affairs, the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Centers (MVCs) and the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) will be available to meet with veterans. The MVCs provide counseling and information resources to veterans throughout the country.
The TVC will also be on hand to meet with veterans and their dependents. Representatives from TVC act as the state appointed advocate of Texas veterans as they attempt to seek out the benefits that they rightfully earned while serving in the military. The TVC’s programs include claims representation and counseling services, veterans employment services and the veterans education program.
One-on-one assistance with the CBC admissions application and financial aid application will also be available. Veterans should bring their high school/college transcripts, DD-214, 2015 W2’s and taxes.
As a Military Friendly School, CBC offers a myriad of services that help veterans and their dependents utilize education benefits. The College participates in various educational programs that are provided by the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs including:
- Chapter 30: Montgomery G. I. Bill Active Duty Educational Assistance Program
- Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation Program
- Chapter 33: Post-911 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2009
