Coastal Bend College

The latest official news from CBC!

Coastal Bend College BannerCoastal Bend College is offering over 23 sections of core curriculum courses in the second summer session that students can register for such as: history, government, economics, Spanish, biology, and speech. Many of these courses are also offered online.

Because these courses are part of the core curriculum, students can jump start their college education before heading off to the university in the fall. In addition to earning college credit hours, students and their families can save hundreds of dollars per 3 credit hour course.

Texas A&M College Station, Corpus Christi and Kingsville charge an average of over $920 for a 3 credit hour course. The University of Texas at Austin charges $1750. CBC in-district students pay about $300 and out-of-district students pay about $500 for a 3 credit hour course. That is a savings of over 65-percent and 45-percent per 3 credit hour course for in-district and out-of-district students, respectively.

Dr. Bruce Exstrom, Dean of Instructional Services, says, “Students should take advantage of summer courses to get acclimated to the college environment before fall. Summer courses tend to be smaller, which gives lots of individual focus to students. And the cost savings puts higher education within reach for more students.”

Recent high school graduates and other students who did not attend in the fall or spring semesters may be eligible for financial aid, if they qualify, since none of their eligibility would have been used for the 2011-2012 academic year. In order for students to be eligible for summer aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2011-2012 year has to be submitted by June 30, 2012.

Utilizing financial aid in the summer would have no effect on a recent high school graduate or new/returning student’s award amount for the 2012-2013 academic year, if they qualify. If you have questions about your financial aid eligibility or need assistance submitting your FAFSA, please contact the CBC Financial Aid Office at (361) 354-2238 or toll-free at 1-866-722-2838 ext. 2238 for more information.

Students who wish to enroll in the second summer session can register Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am-5:30 pm with advisors and counselors at all of our campuses. To talk with an advisor about summer registration, please call (361) 354-2266 or toll-free at 1-866-722-2838 ext. 2266.

Don’t wait until fall to start your college courses—at CBC your future can begin here and now in the second summer session from July 9-August 15, 2012.
