Coastal Bend College students experience Puerto Rico during summer academic program

The group included 16 Coastal Bend College students from the South Texas area, predominantly from Beeville, Alice and Kingsville. Students traveled to Puerto Rico for two weeks in July and took Spanish and/or Sociology college courses during their stay. The CBC group attended classes daily at the Institute for Second Language Acquisition (ISLA) and participated in cultural excursions during the afternoons. Each stayed with local Puerto Rican host families, arranged by ISLA, where they enjoyed home-cooked meals and opportunities to practice and improve Spanish language skills.

Coastal Bend College Spanish instructor to represent Nuevo León in international partnership

Emmanuel Alvarado, Coastal Bend College Spanish instructor, was recently elected to represent the Nuevo León, Mexico Chapter of Partners of the Americas, an international organization that brings people together to build connections. Colleges, universities and other non-profit groups across the country join with each other and institutions in South America to exchange resources and develop programs that are problem-solving solutions for underserved populations or geographic regions. Alvarado is a member of Texas Partners of the Americas, the state chapter of the international organization.
