‘You Are Not Alone’ mental health presentation offered at Coastal Bend College

Campbell will present “You Are Not Alone: Coping With Mental Health Issues” at Coastal Bend College in Beeville on Monday, Sept. 26, 6-7 p.m. in the R.W. Dirks Building, V-119 and again on Tuesday, Sept 27, 9:30-11 a.m. in the Gertrude R. Jones Auditorium. The same presentation will take place in Kingsville, Alice and Pleasanton Campuses. Dia Del Mariachi 2011 results

Almost 700 middle school and high school musicians came together in Alice to take part in the 9th Annual Dia Del Mariachi Group and Vocal Competition at Alice High School. The UIL-sanctioned competition was hosted by Coastal Bend College and Alice High School.

Coastal Bend College presents Once Upon a Mattress

Coastal Bend College drama and music departments and Beeville Community Performing Arts Project presents the Broadway musical comedy, Once Upon a Mattress, on April 28, 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. Performances will be in the Gertrude R. Jones Auditorium in Beeville. Tickets go on sale on April 4. Patrons may call (361) 354-2545; drop by the theater box office at the college; or purchase tickets online at http://www.coastalbend.edu. Tickets are $12 for adults (twelve years of age and older) and $6 for children and students, including current Coastal Bend College students with college ID.

Kansas high school glass sculptor earns Best of Show

Alyssa Canfield, a Liberal High School (Liberal, Kan.) student, earned top honors for her glass entry “Purple Pendengo.” Her Best of Show piece was one of almost 80 entries into the annual juried high school art competition sponsored by Coastal Bend College. The award-winning student work is currently on display in the Simon Michael Art Gallery in Coastal Bend College’s Frank Jostes Visual Arts Building in Beeville. The show will run through March 10. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CBC recognizes federal programs with TRiO Day celebrations

The TRiO Program hosted by Coastal Bend College will be celebrating TRiO Day on Feb. 11, 9:30 a.m. at the Beeville campus and Feb. 25, 9 a.m. at the Alice Campus. Through TRiO, our nation is committed to providing educational opportunities for all Americans regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, gender, age or disability. Over 2,800 TRiO Programs currently serve nearly 850,000 Americans. Thirty-seven percent of TRiO students are White, 35 percent are African-American, 19 percent are Hispanic, 4 percent are Native American, 4 percent are Asian and 1 percent of participants nationwide is listed as “Other,” including multiracial students. More than 7,000 students with disabilities and approximately 6,000 U.S. veterans are currently enrolled in TRiO programs as well.
