This year marks Coastal Bend College’s (CBC) 50th year in providing higher education and career opportunities to South Texas. In celebration of this milestone, the CBC Foundation is hosting a CBC 50th Anniversary Gala to benefit students and programs at all CBC locations.

The fundraising event is set to take place on Saturday, November 14 at 3800 Charco Road in the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center (gymnasium). Festivities kick-off at 6:30 pm with dinner from Werner’s Steakhouse, a keynote address, silent and live auctions, comedian Mike Hickman, and live music by The Gary Glenn Band. Tickets are $50 each.

VIP tickets that include valet parking, preferred seating and access to a VIP cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception from 5:30-6:30 pm are also available for $100.

Former Texas Agriculture Commissioner and current president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association, Todd Staples, is the keynote speaker for the gala.

CBC Alice Site to host undergraduate program showcase

Sub Headline: New state-of-the-art science labs to be unveiled

Members of the Alice community and the surrounding areas are invited to attend the Coastal Bend College (CBC) Alice Site’s Undergraduate Program Showcase. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

Those in attendance will be able to enjoy free activities and entertainment for all ages. Photos captured at the event will be uploaded online via Facebook and can be viewed after the event by visiting www.facebook.com/coastalbendcollege.

Individuals who are interested in attending CBC Alice will have the opportunity to speak with program representatives about the various certificates and degrees that are offered. They will also have the opportunity to visit the facilities that are available to no cost to all students at the CBC Alice Site such as the newly remodeled science labs and the Student Success Center (SSC).

Project OASIS, which is a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) grant focusing on increasing the number of Hispanics and low income students obtaining degrees in STEM fields funded the new science labs. The state-of-the-art science labs will be open for viewing from 4:30 until 6 p.m. at the showcase.

At the SSC, current and prospective CBC Alice students have access to services such as academic advising, special needs services, student success workshops, tutoring, computer labs, career services and the technology loan program.

CBC Pleasanton gears up for annual Community Ties event

Headline: CBC Pleasanton gears up for annual Community Ties event

PLEASANTON, TX- The Coastal Bend College (CBC) Pleasanton site is thrilled to announce that they will host their annual Community Ties event at 1411 Bensdale Road on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 2 p.m.- 7 p.m.

The family friendly event is open to all Pleasanton and surrounding area community members. Families can enjoy games, live entertainment and a huge slide, in addition to other fun activities and information provided by local community agencies and businesses.

A mobile health-screening unit, provided by the local Lions Club, will be on hand performing vision screenings for members of the community. A parent and/or legal guardian will need to be present with any child under the age of 18 who wishes to obtain a free vision screening. Local health care professionals, certified technicians and trained volunteers will perform each screening. The vision screenings are not intended as a substitute for annual eye exams.

An assortment of refreshments and snacks will be available free of charge, while supplies last. Photos that are captured throughout the event will be uploaded online via Facebook and can be viewed after the event by visiting Facebook.com/coastalbendcollege.

Representatives from the various workforce and academic programs that are offered at the CBC Pleasanton site will be present to speak with community members about the higher education options that are available. Nursing, welding, accounting, cosmetology, and early development and education are some of the workforce program options offered at the Pleasanton location. University transfer courses, often referred to as the core curriculum or basics, are also offered.

CBC gears up for Spring Fest 2013


Coastal Bend College invites the community to attend the 2nd annual Spring Fest on Thursday, April 4 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the CBC Courtyard between the Fred C. Latcham, Jr. Academic-Science Building and the Gertrude R. Jones Auditorium.

Spring Fest attendees will be treated to free food, drinks, and entertainment that is sure to be fun for the whole family. Children can enjoy the Extreme Trendz mini car show, face painting, and a bouncy house in addition to a performance by the Beeville Community Action Agency (BCAA) and an appearance by H-E-Buddy.

Returning and potential CBC students will have opportunities to gain in-depth information on applying for admissions and financial aid; participate in a CBC campus tour; and meet CBC faculty, advisors and counselors.

All attendees are also entered to win one of two $250 CBC scholarships sponsored by the Coastal Bend College Foundation and various other prizes donated by Domino’s Pizza, Hair Dynamix, Dave Moore Ford, Aztec Chevrolet, and Little Caesar’s Pizza. Kicker 106 will be broadcasting live from the event.

2013 Wildlife Calendar: Photo Submissions


Coastal Bend College 2013 Wildlife Calendar Submissions

Each year, Coastal Bend College features the work of a select group of area photographers in our annual wildlife calendar. CBC would be honored if you would like to take part in our 2013 calendar.

Photographers who are interested should submit no more than 20 of their most outstanding South Texas wildlife photographs to the Office of Institutional Advancement by Friday, August 24, 2012. Photos may include insects, birds and animals that are native to the area and highlight regional landscape, vegetation and character.

File names for photos submitted electronically must be included on the attached list with the common name and description of each subject. The information will allow for proper identification of the subject. Photographs should be bright, exceptionally sharp and taken with high-quality camera settings.

Prints and slides are not acceptable submissions. Digital files may be submitted on CD, DVD, USB drive or by email. Digital photos should be taken at the highest available camera setting. Photo files must support an output size of 8×10 while retaining high quality.
