Two CBC Men’s Basketball Players Sign National Letters of Intent

Coastal Bend College (CBC) and CBC Men’s Head Basketball Coach Carliss Robinson (center) are proud to announce the signing of two men’s basketball players. Kyonis Owens (right) and Ricardo Stanford (left) recently signed their national letter of intent to continue their athletic careers at four-year universities. Kyonis will be attending the New York Institute of Technology and he will be majoring in accounting. Ricardo will be attending Florida National University and he will be pursuing a pre-law degree. CBC Hosts Love-A-Club Day on February 14

CBC Powerlifting Muscles Up to Host 7th Annual Powerlifting Championships

Members of the community and surrounding areas are invited to attend Coastal Bend College’s (CBC) Seventh Annual CBC Cougar Powerlifting Championships on Saturday, April 22 at CBC Beeville. The powerlifting meet is sanctioned by USA Powerlifting (USAPL) and is slated to take place inside of the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center, which is located at 3800 Charco Road.

Meet participants will have the option of competing in the following: full powerlifting meet (squat, bench press and dead lift), bench press only meet, push/pull meet or deadlift only meet. Divisions for the powerlifting meet will be broken down into youth, teen, junior, open, collegiate, master and Special Olympics.

In order to participate in the powerlifting meet, prospective athletes must first purchase a USAPL membership card. USAPL membership cards range from $10-45 and may be purchased online at Registration for the CBC Cougar Powerlifting Competition is open and interested participants should visit to register. The registration fee for participants varies from $20-$55.

CBC Soccer Team Hosts End Of Year Awards Banquet

Coastal Bend College’s (CBC) Athletic Department recently hosted an awards banquet for the men’s soccer team. The awards banquet was hosted to honor CBC’s student athletes for their historical 2016 season.

CBC Soccer’s Head Coach Brian Byrd and Assistant Coach Jarod Bleibdrey presented athletes with CBC Soccer Awards. The award recipients include:

  • Heart Award- Gideon Njoroge
  • Iron Man Award-Luke Wheeldon
  • Cougar Cornerstone Award- Jamie Pick, Randy Martinez and Teddy Stacy
  • Defensive Player of the Year- Dan McNicholas
  • Offensive Player of the Year- Stephen Kosmala

In addition, two players from CBC’s men’s soccer team were named to the NJCAA All-Region XIV teams. Defender Conor Lee and left wing Sam Fearon each received All-Region XIV honors for their excellent performance this season on the pitch.

Lee is a sophomore from Bedford, England who was one of the 2016 captains for the College’s soccer team this season. He started 19 games for the Cougars and tallied three goals with three assists. Fearon is a freshman from Nottingham, England. He played in 17 games for the Cougars. This season, he recorded eight goals with three assists.

This year, CBC’s men’s soccer team finished 14-6 overall with a record of 9-5 in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIV play. The men’s soccer team hosted its first-ever NJCAA Region XIV quarterfinal playoff match this season against Paris Junior College (PJC). CBC defeated PJC, 2-0. The team’s historic season came to an end when the Cougars traveled to Houston, Texas to play San Jacinto College-South. CBC fell to San Jacinto College-South, 3-2.
