CBC recognizes federal programs with TRiO Day celebrations

The TRiO Program hosted by Coastal Bend College will be celebrating TRiO Day on Feb. 11, 9:30 a.m. at the Beeville campus and Feb. 25, 9 a.m. at the Alice Campus. Through TRiO, our nation is committed to providing educational opportunities for all Americans regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, gender, age or disability. Over 2,800 TRiO Programs currently serve nearly 850,000 Americans. Thirty-seven percent of TRiO students are White, 35 percent are African-American, 19 percent are Hispanic, 4 percent are Native American, 4 percent are Asian and 1 percent of participants nationwide is listed as “Other,” including multiracial students. More than 7,000 students with disabilities and approximately 6,000 U.S. veterans are currently enrolled in TRiO programs as well.

Coastal Bend College students honored for academic excellence

Coastal Bend College recently released its Scholastic Leadership Roll, recognizing more than 275 students for academic excellence during the Fall 2010 semester. Students named to the roll, also called the “dean’s list,” completed 12 or more semester hours with passing grades in all courses and earned a semester grade-point-average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

College closed for winter break

Coastal Bend College will be closed on Dec. 20, 2010 for winter break. The college reopens on Jan. 5, 2011. Coastal Bend College returning students with no holds can register online now at New and transfer students can register for the Spring 2011 semester online and in person Jan. 10-13, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at all campuses. Dia Del Mariachi to be held April 16 in Alice

The 9th Annual Coastal Bend College Dia Del Mariachi™ Vocal and Group Competition, will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Alice High School, located at 1 Coyote Trail in Alice, Texas. The competition’s best overall elementary, middle and high school vocalists, and the best overall groups from Elementary/Middle School Division I and II, High School Division I and II, Composite Groups, and Two-Year Colleges will be showcased on stage prior to an evening concert featuring Mariachi Campanas de America. This year, Coastal Bend College will attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for the world’s largest Mariachi ensemble. The attempt is open to all Mariachi musicians – student or professional.
