ALICE – Coastal Bend College (CBC), in partnership with HALO-Flight EMS Academy, is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course. The course is being offered at CBC-Alice located at 704 Coyote Trail.
The EMT Course will begin on Monday, July 10th, 2023 and will end in December. Classes will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. There will be some Saturday labs from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. during the course, at appropriate intervals. Class will be limited to 25 students. Deadline for registration is June 28, 2023.
Students in the EMT Course will complete 210 classroom hours and practicum of 24 hours of hospital clinicals and at least 48 hours of ambulance clinicals.
The course will consist of classroom, lab, and hospital/EMS clinicals. Prerequisite for entry is a high school diploma or GED and a minimum age of 18 by the end of the course. A current Driver License. A criminal background check will be required of all students. A current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS CPR is required prior to clinical internship. (An AHA class will be offered prior to the start of the course, July 12 & 13, at the student’s expense of $50.00). Also, proof of current immunization records will be required (including Hepatitis B series, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Meningococcal and seasonal Infuenze vaccine. A negative result from a tuberculosis skin test (PPD) is required no older than six months of clinicals in August. Complete details are included in the registration packet.
