YouthBuild Coastal Bend Awarded $1.49 Million, Hosting Rapid Registration Events

YouthBuild Coastal Bend has been awarded a $1.49 million grant from the United States Department of Labor (USDOL). The USDOL announced in June that YouthBuild Coastal Bend was one of 68 organizations nationwide to be awarded. YouthBuild grants support a pre-apprenticeship model to help young people learn valuable occupational skills, earn their high school diploma, and prepare for post-secondary and career opportunities.

“YouthBuild meets young people where they live and wherever they are on their path to educational attainment and career success,” said Principal Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Suzi LeVine. “Even as these grants are awarded, the Employment and Training Administration is working on the next YouthBuild funding opportunity, always with an eye to equity and inclusion in terms of the communities involved and the individual participants served.”

YouthBuild Coastal Bend, a 9-month education, occupational, leadership and pre-apprenticeship program for young people ages 16-24 who have low incomes and have dropped out of school, has a few more spots available for the class of 2022.

The program will host Rapid Registration events January 25 and January 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for interested residents to complete all required paperwork and assessments in one visit. The registration events will be held at Coastal Bend College.

Those interesting in registering need to bring a photo ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of income, and a school transcript if available. Plan to spend at least three hours with staff to finalize orientation.
