CBC to Offer CDL Training in Pleasanton in Partnership with Del Mar College

Coastal Bend College administrators will meet with representatives from Del Mar College at CBC Pleasanton on September 24 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the start of a new Commercial Driver’s License training program.

With the shortage of qualified drivers across Texas, wages for commercial drivers are on the rise. The demand of local drivers is growing as the regional economic expansion continues, so now is the perfect time for you to answer the call of the road.

“Del Mar College is partnering with Coastal Bend College to offer CDL training in Pleasanton. With demand for CDL drivers, and in support of the oil and gas industry, we see this as a win win win , for employers, potential workers and for local community colleges. Del Mar College has been in the CDL business for past 15 plus years, and we’re excited about partnering with CBC to offer this to local community” said Dan Korus, Dean of Workforce Programs and Corporate Training at Del Mar College.

The first round of CDL training, which includes classroom and driving instruction, will start soon in Pleasanton. The CDL Class A (Truck) training program will last four weeks, meeting four days a week with 40 hours CDL Prep/Pre-requiste/online, 20 hours of classroom instruction, 70 hours hands-on backing instruction, and 70 hours hands-on driving instruction for a total of 200 hours with a cost of $4,500.

The requirements to start the program including the following:

  • Valid Texas drivers license
  • At least 18 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations on driving record for the past 3 years
  • Pass a Texas Department of Transportion physical and drug screen.
