Coastal Bend College to Sign Transfer Articulation Agreement with South Texas College

Coastal Bend College and South Texas College will announce on Monday, July 22 at 11:30 a.m. in the Grady C. Hogue Learning Resource Center Room 106.  This partnership will allow Coastal Bend College associate of applied science degree students from 19 programs the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s of Organization Leadership, Bachelors of Technology Management, Bachelors of Medical and Health Service Management, or a Bachelor’s of Computer and Information Technologies from South Texas College.

According to a recent article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, 80 percent of students attending community colleges nationwide intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree, but only 14 percent have one six years later. This new agreement—which provides deeper connections between the two colleges resulting in streamlined services and admissions for students—aims to improve those numbers in Texas.

Zachary Suarez, Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success said, “Through this agreement we’re clearing the obstacles that all too often get in the way of students who are seeking a four-year degree. This partnership paves the way, outlining each step needed to ensure credits earned will all properly transfer while also maximizing each student’s financial investment in their education.”

Eligible students must earn a Coastal Bend College Associate of Applied Science Degree from one of the 19 programs listed in the articulation agreement by completing the transfer coursework developed and approved by both institutions. Through this agreement, Coastal Bend College students who meet stated requirements can be granted admittance into South Texas College. CBC students can then complete the bachelor’s degree requirements through online delivery. South Texas College is the first community college that Coastal Bend College has partnered with for a 2+2 program.

Coastal Bend College Interim-President Dr. Carry DeAtley said, “This partnership demonstrates the commitment of Coastal Bend College and South Texas College to work together to provide educational opportunity and support that promotes student success. Students can begin at Coastal Bend College, then transfer seamlessly to South Texas College.”

CBC students can complete their designated applied science programs, close to home, and know their courses will count toward a four-year degree at STC later. CBC students will have clear course comparisons and STC admissions counselors who will help them apply for admission and scholarships. Coastal Bend College services 9 counties in Texas with degree options for academic and workforce programs.
