Bee City USA Renews Coastal Bend College Certification

Bee City USA has renewed Coastal Bend College’s certification for 2019 following a rigorous renewal process. The process, led by Dean Zachary Suarez, CBC’s Dean of Academics, completed CBC’s efforts to accomplish this recertification and to engage the campus in promoting pollinator-friendliness.

Bee City USA is an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, the largest pollinator protection organization in the world. The Bee Campus USA certification program galvanizes campuses and communities to sustain pollinators by providing them with healthy habitat, rich in a variety of native plants and free to nearly free of pesticides. Imperiled pollinators like wild bees, honey bees, butterflies, moths, wasps, bats, hummingbirds, and others are responsible for the reproducing of nearly ninety percent of the world’s wild flowering plant species and one in every three bites of food we consume.

Currently, Coastal Bend College is one of six higher education institutions in the great state of Texas recognized as a Bee Campus.
