CBC Announces the Return of Year Round Pell

For the first time since 2011, eligible students at Coast Bend College and across the country will be able to obtain additional federal Pell grants for the summer semester.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to accelerate their degree completion,” said Nora Morales, director of financial aid. ” It always helps when students are afforded more monies to obtain their goal of a college degree.”

To be eligible for this funding, a student has to enroll in at least six credit hours during Summer. The amount awarded varies based on need and the student’s enrollment load. The year-round funding is a national availability for FAFSA-eligible students.

The Federal Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate students to promote access to postsecondary education. Students may use their grants at any one of approximately 5,400 participating postsecondary institutions. Grant amounts are dependent on: the student’s expected family contribution, the cost of attendance, the student’s enrollment status and whether the student attends for a full academic year or less.

Year-round Pell allows students to receive up to 150 percent of a regular grant award over the course of the academic year so that they can continue taking classes in the summer and finish their degrees faster than they would otherwise.
