The Coastal Bend College Foundation (CBCF) hosted a Donor Scholar Reception on August 30 to honor the fall 2016 CBCF scholarship recipients and the scholarships’ respective donors. Over $22,000 was awarded to CBC students for use in their fall courses.

Reva Salazar, a CBC dual enrollment and A.C. Jones High School student, spoke about how the scholarship will help her make progress towards her goal of pursuing medical school to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
“I’ve done my research, and there’s a lot of schooling involved with becoming a surgeon, which is why I chose to take CBC dual enrollment courses to get a head start. I’d like to thank everyone, especially the donors, for making this possible.”
Also present at the reception was CBC Alice licensed vocational nursing (LVN) student Gabriel Perez. During Perez’ speech, he emphasized how the donors influence positive changes by making higher education more affordable for so many students.
“You, the donors, have given us a sense of responsibility to continue our education. You’ve made it possible to take another step toward our careers. You’ve made it possible to train with excellent academic staff at CBC, and you’ve made it possible for us to one day give back to our communities like you have given to us today.”
