Headline: Commencement ceremonies set for May 6 at Coastal Bend College
Coastal Bend College’s (CBC) commencement exercises are scheduled for Friday, May 6. Two ceremonies will take place—one at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. inside of the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center (gymnasium), which is located at the CBC Beeville campus on 3800 Charco Road. Graduates from CBC’s Beeville, Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton locations will take part in the College’s annual commencement exercises.
The morning commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. will include graduates in the following programs: airframe & power technology, Associate of Science, cosmetology, dental hygiene, drafting & design, early development and education, forensic science, law enforcement/criminal justice and oil and gas technology.
The afternoon commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. will include graduates in the following programs: accounting, Associate of Arts, automotive technology, computer information technology, health information technology/medical records coding, professional business technology, nursing (LVN, RN and CNA), radiologic technology and welding technology.
CBC’s 2016 Distinguished Alumnus, The Honorable Judge Stephanie Silvas, will deliver this year’s commencement address. Judge Silvas is a 2001 graduate of A. C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas. She attended CBC and transferred to Texas State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication. Judge Silvas then went on to complete her doctorate of Juris Prudence in 2011 at Western New England University School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts.
In 2015, Judge Silvas was appointed Bee County Judge by a unanimous vote during the Bee County Commissioners’ Court Regular Term Meeting. She is the first female judge in Bee County and one of the youngest judges’ in the State of Texas.
CBC’s commencement ceremonies will feature music by Hill County Brass throughout the graduation processional and throughout the program. Students’ family and friends, as well as community members, are invited to attend the annual commencement exercises.
In addition, graduates and their guests are encouraged to attend a free dessert reception sponsored by the CBC Foundation. The dessert reception will take place after each commencement ceremony in front of the George F. Elam Technical-Vocational Building.
