Small businesses with 99 employees or less throughout the surrounding areas will be able to enhance the skill set of their full-time employees thanks to a $20,000 Skills for Small Business grant awarded to Coastal Bend College (CBC) from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

The Skills for Small Business program, which has $2 million allocated to it statewide, helps aid in the advancement of Texas’ business community by providing training for small businesses that is needed by their full-time employees, and that will benefit and enhance the businesses’ operations.

The program pays up to $1,450 for each new employee (hired in the 12 months prior to TWC’s receipt of the application) being trained and $725 for existing employees per 12-month period.

CBC’s entire regular/college credit, continuing education and/or online courses are available for small businesses to utilize through this program. CBC’s course offerings range from accounting and computer information technology to hands-on welding and workplace safety courses. Training can include credit courses, continuing education, online or other available courses.

CBC’s Skills for Small Business grant period ends in April 2016, and small businesses from the College’s entire district are eligible to apply.
