Findleys named 2014 Distinguished Donors at CBC Foundation fundraiser

Fundraiser raises nearly $50K for CBC Alice students and programs

ALICE, TX— The Coastal Bend College Foundation honored local philanthropists and business owners Bill and Phyllis Findley by presenting them with the inaugural Distinguished Donor award. The award was presented to the Findleys at a college fundraiser held on December 4 at the home of Dr. Roel and Cindy Garza. To date, the Findleys have donated $25,000 to support CBC Alice students and programs, and Bill Findley serves as Director Emeritus on the CBC Foundation Board of Directors.

Since establishing FESCO, Ltd. as Findley Engineering Service Company in 1949, Bill Findley has led the way in growth and economic development in Jim Wells County. Over 65 years later, the Findleys continue to be outstanding leaders committed to the prosperity, education, and success of Jim Wells County and all its citizens.

“We all know Bill and Phyllis as stalwarts in our community. Always ready to support our community, our youth, and be champions of higher education,” said Clare Atkinson Wonders, a CBC Foundation board member. “This donation to CBC Alice is just one more example of their lifelong commitment and investment in the future of our community’s nurses, teachers, welders, mechanics, lawyers, law enforcement officials, and countless others.”

In addition to the Findley’s generous contribution to the Foundation, Wonders and her brother Newell Atkinson III donated $10,000 to the Foundation. Wonders’ family also has a legacy of donating and supporting local organizations and causes to help improve the lives of Jim Wells County residents.

Other businesses and individuals that made a commitment to support CBC Alice with their donations are: Alice Chevrolet; Hugo Berlanga; Cantu Chevrolet; Dr. Sergio S. Cantu; Cordova Oil and Gas Consulting, LLC; Richard and Esther DeLeon; Double M Trucking; Michael V. and Marisol Garcia; IBC; Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP; Luera’s Welding, Inc.; P&J Electric, Inc.; Pitts Trucking, LLC; R&V Transportation; Ramon’s Rental; Right of Way Service, Inc.; Sable Environmental II, LLC; South 281 Mini-Storage; Standard Logistics, LLC; Stryder Construction & Pipeline; and Triple R Road Services. Collectively, these individuals donated $48,800 towards improvements that will enhance student learning at CBC Alice.
