Distance Learning symposium to be held in Beeville

Dr. Darcy W. Hardy, Assistant Vice Provost for Technology Education Initiatives at the University of Texas at San Antonio, is keynote speaker at the Title V Distance Learning Symposium to be held at Coastal Bend College Beeville Campus on Friday, Aug. 26from 11:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The symposium is an opportunity for higher education faculty to come together to share ideas on how to create engaging course content, connect to online learners and collaborate on future projects. 

 Prior to her position with UT San Antonio, Hardy served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Executive Director of the UT TeleCampus from 1997 to 2010. Under her tenure, the award-winning UT TeleCampus offered over 30 fully online programs and saw approximately 20,000 enrollments annually.

 Hardy received her Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992. She is a founding member and past president of the Texas Distance Learning Association (TxDLA). She was inducted into the Texas Distance Learning Association Hall of Fame in 2006, and received the WCET Richard Jonsen award in 2005.

 Currently, Hardy serves as Chair Emerita with the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) where she has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1999 and is a past president and past chair. She is the founder of the USDLA-sponsored International Forum for Women in E-Learning (IFWE), an event that focuses on issues faced by women in the industry. Hardy was inducted into the USDLA Hall of Fame in 2009 and received the Mildred and Charles Wedemeyer Outstanding Distance Learning Practitioner Award in Madison, Wis. in 2006.

 Hardy contributed a chapter in the book, Harnessing Innovation Technologies, which was chosen for the 2009 AERA Outstanding Research Publication Award. Dancing on the Glass Ceiling: Women, Leadership and Technology, co-editeded by Hardy with Don Olcott, received the 2005 Charles Wedemeyer Publication Award from the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA). She also served as the Interviews Editor for The American Journal of Distance Education from 2005 to 2009.
