The following Coastal Bend College Radiologic Technology students were named to Lambda Nu (ΛΝ) National Honor Society for Radiologic and Imaging Sciences: Deborah Garcia of Kingsville; Steven Gibson of Jourdanton; Laura Gonzales of Mathis; Stephen Nester of Alice; Rebecca Richardson of Kingsville; and Samantha Stehling of Beeville.
Lambda Nu’s name is derived from the lower case Greek characters in the formula λν, which represents wavelength (λ) and frequency (ν). Lambda Nu uses the upper case Greek characters Λ (Lambda) and Ν (Nu) to represent the inverse relationship and delicate balance required between the art and the science inherent in the radiologic and imaging sciences professions of radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, diagnostic medical sonography, cardiovascular-interventional technology, mammography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, quality management, and bone densitometry.
The honor society’s objectives are to:
- foster academic scholarship at the highest academic levels
- promote research and investigation in the radiologic and imaging sciences
- recognize exemplary scholarship
There are currently 119 Lambda Nu chapters in 40 states, including Texas chapters at Coastal Bend College; University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Sciences Programs in Radiation Oncology in Houston; Del Mar College in Corpus Christi; and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
Coastal Bend College students belong to the Texas Chi Beta Chi Chapter. Lambda Nu’s home chapter is at Arkansas State University.
