TRiO Upward Bound G.O.S.T. (UB-GOST) is a college preparatory program. Professional advisers help students interested in going to college and earning bachelor’s degrees by providing academic and cultural enrichment; campus visits; opportunities to earn community service hours; and assistance in completing all college and financial aid applications and forms.
The UB-GOST office is located at Coastal Bend College in Beeville and provides services to 50 high school students from George West, Odem, Sinton, and Taft. In order to qualify for UB-GOST, a student must be in the ninth- or tenth-grade; attend one of the four target schools; and be considered low-income and/or first generation college bound (neither parent has a bachelor’s degree). The next step is to take a test, the MAT-7, to qualify. The last testing date for the fall is Dec. 11, from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CBC Beeville, located at 3800 Charco Road. Anyone interested in the program should go by the high school counselor’s office for an application; check us out on-line at the CBC website under TRiO programs (www.coastalbend.edu); or contact Heather Anderson, UB-GOST Project Director, at (361) 354-2746.
