Coastal Bend College expands Criminal Justice offerings in Kingsville

 A full range of Criminal Justice courses are now offered for Fall 2010 at Coastal Bend College — Kingsville Campus. Criminal Justice courses at CBC can be transferred to all Texas public universities for students interested in earning associate’s degrees and transferring on to earn Bachelor’s of Science Degrees in Criminal Justice.

 “The increase in course availability is directly related to the demand for the classes,” said Carl Sherrouse, criminal just instructor at CBC Kingsville.

 The following classes have been added to the schedule:

 CRIJ 2328 Police Systems & Practices, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9:20 AM

This course covers the police profession; organization of law enforcement systems; the police role; police discretion; ethics; police-community relations; and current and future issues.

 CRIJ 1306 Court Systems & Practice, Mondays and Wednesdays, 8-9:20 AM

This course is an overview of the judiciary in the Criminal Justice system; structure of American court system; prosecution; right to counsel; pre-trial release; grand jury, adjudication process, types and rules of evidence, sentencing.

 CRIJ 2314 Criminal Investigation, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30-11:20 AM

This is an introduction to the fundamentals of criminal investigation including theory and history, conduct at crime scenes, collection and preservation of evidence, sources of information, interview and interrogation, uses of forensic sciences, and case and trial preparation.

 CRIJ 2313 Correctional Systems & Practices, Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30-1:50 PM

This course covers corrections in the Criminal Justice system; organization of correctional systems; correctional role; institutional operations; alternatives to institutionalization; treatment and rehabilitation; current and future issues.

CRIJ 2301 Community Resources In Corrections, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30-10:50 AM

 This is an introductory study of the role of the community in corrections; community programs for adults and juveniles; administration of community programs; legal issues; future trends in community treatment.

 Coastal Bend College is located at 1814 Brahma Blvd. in Kingsville. Classes begin Aug. 26. Registration is available online at www.coastalbend.edu or on campus from Aug. 23-25.
