The theme of Kids College 2010 is Once Upon a Time: Lessons from Fairy Tales. Youth six to 12 years old can sign up for Coastal Bend College’s annual month-long summer day camp in Beeville.
Kids College runs from June 7 to July 1, Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Additional activities take place in the afternoons, 1-5 p.m. All segments of Kids College are led by qualified and creative instructors and supervised by the Continuing Education Division. Students have the option of buying meal tickets or bringing their own breakfasts and lunches.
Participants will learn the origins of ancient and popular fairy tales. This exploration of literature will include the language, geography, music, dress, imagery and imagination that fairy tales embody. During the July 1 finale, students will present their own fairy tales.
All day camp is $425 for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. sessions. The cost is $276 for morning sessions only (8 a.m.-1 p.m.) and $200 for afternoon sessions only (1-5 p.m.). Those interested can opt for guitar only ($67), art only ($67) or dance only ($67) sessions in the afternoon. Class times for these sessions vary by the child’s age.
