Coastal Bend College graduation to be held May 21

Coastal Bend College Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m. at Coastal Bend College – Main Campus, located at 3800 Charco Road in Beeville. CBC graduates from Alice, Beeville, Kingsville and Pleasanton campuses will take part in the annual commencement exercises.

 Dr. Ali Esmaeili, South Texas College Dean of Bachelor Programs and University Relations, is keynote speaker. In 1978, at the age of 26, Esmaeili immigrated to the United States from Iran. He enrolled at, then, Bee County College where his passion for science and engineering were initially fostered. Shortly after earning an Associate of Science Degree in 1980, he began baccalaureate studies at Texas A&I University –Kingsville where he majored in agricultural mechanization.

 He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982 and went on to pursue two master’s degrees in science — agricultural mechanization in 1984 and adult education in 1991.

 In 2001, he earned a Doctorate Degree in Education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. His career as an educator, spanning the last 20 years, has given him the opportunity to mentor students at secondary, community college and university levels. In the early 1990s, he served as a mathematics instructor at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen. 

 His leadership, innovation, and genuine concern for students were the bedrock of his success while serving as a founding member of the South Texas College faculty. Since the establishment of South Texas College in 1994, he has served as instructor, department chair, Coordinator for Instructional Support Services, Coordinator for Professional and Organizational Development and Interim Dean for Math, Science and Developmental Studies. Under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Esmaeili, currently Division Dean for the Bachelor of Applied Technology Division, South Texas College began to offer its first four-year degree programs in 2005. 

 Dr. Esmaeili is known throughout the Rio Grande Valley by his former students and colleagues as an innovator and tireless advocate for the power of community college education in South Texas. While holding countless affiliations including Honorary Member of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD), Executive Board Member for the Rio Grande Valley Council of Teachers of Mathematics (RGVCTM), Board Member for the National Community College Baccalaureate Association (CCBA), and serving as a presenter at educational leadership conferences throughout the continental United States, he also finds time to be a proud and committed member of the Coastal Bend College Alumni Association and family.

 Hill Country Brass will provide music for the graduation processional and throughout the program.

 Graduation is open to the community. It will be held outdoors.
